George Clanton – “Make It Forever”

I want to ride off into the sunset in a 1992 Acura Legend with George Clanton‘s Slide on blast!

Slide, the latest from the VA-born vaporwave artist also known as Mirror Kisses and ESPIRIT 空想 is an engrossing record. Drenched in ’90s kitsch, Slide is evocative, maximal, and dramatic in sound and intent. It’s an emotional rollercoaster, with Clanton pouring his soul out about unrequited love and the highs and lows of relationships. It works pretty well on that level, but it also works as some dope music you’d probably find on the last minutes of an old dusty VHS tape of 2AM MTV footage from 1996. Clanton is a pro at tugging at your memories, and everything is draped in nostalgia, right down to the familiar drum loops you’ve probably heard in some ’90s pop hit.

“Make It Forever” has been on repeat for a moment because it feels so grand, inviting, and familiar. The way the music swells, the rise and falls, the pounding drums, and Clanton’s impassioned singing makes this one a standout in a record full of ’em. Take a listen!
