JMSN – “‘Bout It”

I am way too excited about this.

Okay, so since the last time I spoke about the indie R&B artist JMSN I’ve become a legit stan. His previous records, Priscilla and †Pllaj놠(still copy and pasted that one…btw, it means “Plateau” in Albanian) are mainstays on my playlists, and in a short period of time he’s racked up the most listens of pretty much anything I’ve listened to in the past year.

And he plays in DC tomorrow night. I’m super fuckin’ excited. If you know me, NOTHING excites me, so I’m pretty damn stoked about this.

Since the start of the new year I’ve been really enjoying his latest effort from December, JMSN, AKA, The Blue Album. BTW, notice the color schemes on his work? Priscilla was red, †Pllajë† was white, and this is blue? Don’t know if it’s intentional, but stylistically it’s pretty neat. Anyway, JMSN is a bit of a departure from his earlier sounds, as JMSN moves more into fully-blown R&B. Compared to the anguish and depression which permeated his earlier tracks, this album is more…euphoric, like the dude has weathered the storm and found a new flame. It took me a little while to  get into the fact that the record’s a bit more subtle, and doesn’t venture through as many rollercoaster-like highs and lows seen in earlier songs. It’s a little more laid back and very intimate.  I’m with it. And the record definitely has its moments.

“‘Bout It” is one of those moments. A highlight. Constant repeat for me. The track feels like a journey, with its fast tempo, musical swells and J’s emotion. You can get lost in this one, and the break towards the end is simply sublime. Lovely listen, and I CAN’T WAIT to hear this one live.
